WEST CHESTER, Pa., February 15, 2008 – Last month MEI released recognition software to update its MEI® Series 2000 product line to accept the new $5 bill entering circulation on March 13. Now MEI has released recognition software for its line of Conlux® value brand products. Beginning February 25, MEI will ship all new Conlux NBM 3000 bill validators with the new software.
Most Conlux bill validators can be easily upgraded in the field well ahead of the new $5 bill’s official launch date. The NBM 3000 has three different types of control boards, dependent upon the manufacture date. Customers using a validator with a black or white EEPROM connector can upgrade it using a Conlux bill programming device, which comes with an unlimited number of downloads. A Conlux Authorized Service Center can upgrade the original Gen 1 validators with an orange EEPROM connector. .
MEI worked closely with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) to design the new recognition software, which supports the multiple security levels incorporated in the new bill design to reduce the chance of fraud.
About the New $5 Bills
The new $5 bills, like the $10, $20 and $50 notes introduced over the last few years, incorporate advanced security features to combat counterfeiting, including color-shifting ink, a watermark and security thread. These features are easy to use for consumers and cash handlers alike, and they will help to maintain global confidence in U.S. currency.
