WEST CHESTER, Pa., August 22, 2007 – MEI has released software updates allowing kiosks, self-checkouts and other self-service systems that have been deployed by customers to immediately recognise and accept the new style of Scottish banknotes. The Bank of Scotland will issue updated note designs for all denominations starting this autumn that contain new security features to combat counterfeiters.

MEI offers retail customers two different options to update their MEI CASHFLOW SC, SCL and BNA note acceptors in the field: using the remote download facility or using an MEI handheld USB device (PPM). To receive the update, customers should contact Andrew Osborne at andrew.osborne@meigroup.com.

MEI designs its software update technology based on a close working relationship with the world’s banks, including the Bank of Scotland. As a result, transaction-based kiosks and self-service systems can be quickly and efficiently updated to accept new banknote designs, so that consumers can continue to use their preferred payment method, including cash.

About the New Bank of Scotland Banknotes

The new banknote design features Scottish bridges that represent the pioneering enterprise and heritage of Scotland. The colour and size of the new notes are consistent with previous designs, and they will have the same stiff and crisp feel.
